The Diversity, Equality Opportunities and Inclusion Committee

Walking the Talk - Diversity, Equal Opportunities and Inclusion

This Committee will meet mainly through telephone conferences, new members are welcome. Pease contact Sue Kennedy at the AFT Executive Office on 01925 444414

AIMS    To assist the Ethics Committee in ensuring that AFT develops a sound Diversity, Equal Opportunities and Inclusion policy and to ensure that the AFT Executive and Board understand its responsibilities in relation to Government policies in these matters.

The committee will be called The Diversity, Equal Opportunities and Inclusion committee.    It will consist of up to 8 members drawn from existing committees and the general membership of AFT and may co-opt up to 2 students* with a special interest in this topic.   Each main AFT committee will appoint a named person to liaise with the sub-committee. Liaison may be accomplished by attendance at the sub-committee or by exchange of Minutes as appropriate.   This will enable the committee to approach other committees via the named liaison person and for the committees to keep themselves informed in the same way.

Contact between committee members will be by telephone meetings, e-mails and one face-to-face meeting per year as is common for most committees.

(* a student is someone participating in an AFT approved qualifying course)

THE BRIEF

AFT will provide support via the Professional Officer who will also draw support from UKCP.

1. Gather information on Government policies and advice on Diversity, Equal Opportunities and Inclusion for service provision, education and employment.  Support from the AFT Professional Officer and the UKCP will be available for this task.

2. Consider how Government policies and advice apply to the activities of the AFT Executive, Board and Committees.

3. Consider whether there are wider issues of Diversity, Equal Opportunities and Inclusion which AFT should consider.

4. Draft a sound Diversity, Equal Opportunities and Inclusion Policy for the Ethics committee to present to the AFT Board for adoption.

5. Consider how AFT can put the Policy into practice and advise the Ethics Committee.

6. Together with the Ethics Committee discuss this Policy with the AFT Executive, Board and Committees.

7. Support the Association in implementing the policy and developing this area of AFT activity.
