Our recent elections have brought in some new members for each of the three Boards. This ensures consistency for EFTA ’s aims and functions, while allowing the continuous flow of new ideas. As your President, I shall try to be an ambassador for EFTA, and for the field of family therapy and systemic practice.
We need to be looking outwards, to other family therapy organisations, other European organisations of our multi-disciplinary colleagues, to regulating bodies and to the social policy makers. EFTA has made some good progress.
Mony Elkaim has started talks with EU Commissioners about enabling family therapists to work across member state boundaries. EFTA is the Europe Wide Organisation with the European Association of Psychotherapy, managing the Euro Certificate of Psychotherapy. For more information, visit the EFTA web site.
Dr Arlene Vetere
President, EFTA
4 – 6 October 2007 – Glasgow
This conference was a great success and thanks to all those involved.
EFTA has successfully reorganised and now has three autonomous chambers, one of which is the Training Institutes Chamber (TIC). EFTA-TIC is supported by over 100 training institutes throughout Europe, including seven from the UK. EFTA-TIC has two areas of activity: to support the role of high quality training in all European countries and to facilitate mutual support and exchange between training institutes.
The EFTA Training Standards Committee* has agreed criteria that are consistent with those of the European Certificate in Psychotherapy. EFTA is not providing accreditation but wishes to establish agreed standards to facilitate exchange between family therapists across Europe. The Committee is now working on criteria for teachers and supervisors.
A new Ethics committee has been established to deal with complaints made against members. The Committee needs to establish new procedures to take account of the new organisational structure.
The criteria for training standards have been adopted by EFTA. The Chamber of Individual Members has adopted the criteria for membership developed by the Committee.
