Employment & Registration

AFT tries to take every opportunity to promote the profession and recent negotiations with Amicus have been part of this. Within the limits of its charitable status, anything it does has ultimately to benefit the public and it cannot become involved with individual disputes (that is the role of the trade union). However, there is clearly much that needs to be done to ensure that good family therapy services are available and the Professional Affairs Committee welcomes your views and ideas

“A review of the existing evidence base finds substantial evidence for the efficacy and the effectiveness of family interventions. Where economic analyses have been carried out, family therapy is found to be no more costly, and sometimes significantly cheaper, than alternative treatments without loss of efficacy.”

Stratton, P (2005). Report On The Evidence Base Of Systemic Family Therapy. Association for Family Therapy.

AFT is a Member Organisation of UKCP(the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) and as such is able to recommend its members for UKCP Registration.  Evidence of UKCP Registration is now a requirement for Employment as a Qualified Systemic Psychotherapist (Family Therapist). The Registration committee ensure that members meet the criteria for registration each year and also approve UKCP Registered members to be Approved Supervisors.
