| Working with Refugees | |
| (Ref D35) | |
|
The
unique nature of the refugee condition creates a multiplicity of
problems. The complexity and variability of refugee needs as well
as the resulting pressures on the workers are such that they require
most delicate treatment.
|
|
| This course aims to assist those working with refugees to develop and enhance their understanding and skills in the context of their own experience. | |
| Using systemic and psychodynamic approaches, it aims to create a facilitative space within which to consider the complexities of the refugee condition from a more global perspective including therapeutic, clinical, theoretical, organisational and political dimensions. | |
| The course is inter-disciplinary and is open to all professionals and non-professional workers who are engaged in (or want to) work with refugees in different capacities (from voluntary workers and social workers to managers and psychotherapists). | |
| MA/PhD in Refugee Care | |
| (Ref M35)* | |
| This course aims to equip students to work directly with refugees and asylum seekers. The programme prepares students: | |
| • for work as competent, reflective and pro-active workers with refugees/asylum seekers in a variety of different work settings and remits | |
| • to meet the challenges imposed by those wider societal parameters (e.g. changing legislation, political priorities, public opinion) that affect refugees directly and indirectly | |
| • to conceptualise and formulate refugee-related projects (for research and/or service purposes) | |
| The programme combines theoretical, practical and experiential modes of learning. | |
| * Offered in partnership with the University of Essex | |
