September 2025

On 9 September  Karen Carberry was interviewed by MTM TV Jamaica regarding her career and work in family and systemic psychotherapy. In addition, she answered questions on the topic of her presentation for the 17th Suicide Prevention Conference in Kingston, Jamaica, entitled 'Mental Illness a Risk Factor in Suicidality: Understanding Depression, Bipolar Disorder and PTSD Role in Suicidality'. The conference was attended by 150 people and over 1000 people online across the world, including South Africa, Burundi, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Tanzania, The Congo, Belize, South America, the Caribbean, the US, UK and Europe.

April 2024

Karen Carberry had the pleasure of attending the 3rd session of the Permanent Forum on People of African Descent at the United Nations in Geneva from 16-19 April, in which she was able to submit recommendations for decolonising therapeutic courses to enable cultural equity in the teaching of psychology and psychotherapy; Karen also made recommendations to address inequity in the treatment of eating disorders in the African-decended community.

Finally, Karen was able to speak on 19 April on recommending the wider implementation of the published model of working transgeneratially with Haitian families which is included in the International Handbook of Black Community Mental Health. Karen's presentation takes place at 2 hrs 26 minutes after the presentation about Haiti (02:26:23). View here.

Chana Hughes presented a TEDx Talk – Zooming out: the next mental health revolution.  She reveals the transformative power of ‘zooming out’ which, if done effectively, can lead to a healthier outlook on life, more expansive thinking and may offer an antidote to loneliness.

Here is a recording of 4th February's 1 Show Live on PBC SKY775 where Parveen Kaur took part in a discussion about the importance and sensitive topic of domestic abuse in Punjabi communities. With a great panel of experts they considered the nature, causes, impacts and solutions to domestic abuse both in relation to women and men. The show is a mix of Punjabi and English.
