Applying for Course Accreditation

The information on this page is for training providers seeking accreditation of their course/s.

AFT do not run training courses. For individuals wishing to train please see Routes to Qualifying

Course Accreditation

The Association for Family Therapy and Systemic Practice in the UK (AFT), through its CRED Committee, provides a framework for accrediting courses in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy and in systemic practice.

AFT’s accreditation process ensures that accredited training are of a high standard and allow movement of students to other training providers if necessary.

AFT Course Accreditation Training Standards

AFT’s Accreditation Framework is outlined in the following documents which can be downloaded from the Policy, Standards and Guidance page.

  • Blue Book for Foundation, Intermediate and Qualifying Level training
  • Embedded Course Accreditation Guidance
  • Red Book for Supervision Level training

Courses are required to run one cohort of trainees before applying for accreditation. If the course is accredited, trainees from the first year will be considered to have completed an accredited course. Courses are advised to use the Blue Book 4th Edition when setting up their courses or making substantial changes. Consultation can be arranged at this stage and a fee will be charged.

Course Accreditation

After application, arrangements will be put in place for a formal presentation of the course to panellists – this will usually require a visit. Course accreditation is for different periods according to level, and subject to annual review.

Course Re-accreditation

This is usually a paper based exercise and the course can be accredited for a further period, subject to annual review. At the end of this period a full accreditation visit will be required.

Please note:

New pricing and course membership structures will be advised in the near future.
