AFT Membership & Joining
Membership is open to anyone from the UK or overseas interested in the field, developing their skills, and gaining understanding of effective family-inclusive practice, as well as to fully-qualified family and systemic psychotherapists. Wherever you are in your career, AFT membership can support you in keeping up-to-date with current systemic thinking and developments in the field. By becoming an AFT member you will be joining a thriving multi-disciplinary community of practitioners and others interested in developing collaborative systemic practice in the UK.
AFT is a professional membership organisation, but not a professional registration body. AFT does not hold a professional register, but can support members who are fully-qualified family and systemic psychotherapists with initial application and continued recommendation to the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) who hold a professional register for psychotherapists in the UK. In accordance with AFT's articles of association “Membership of the Association shall not confer any professional status upon a Member.” All members are required to read and abide by the AFT Code of Ethics.

What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is a tax relief set up by the government to enable charities to claim back 25p for every eligible £1 donation that is made to your charity. The Association for Family Therapy is a charity and so they’re able to claim 25% on eligible donations made to them by UK taxpayers. This includes any membership fees we receive from members. We cannot claim for activities which cost less than non-members pay since this is deemed as a direct benefit, e.g. reduced webinar fees and conference attendance. In claiming Gift Aid, we are able to provide bursaries to support those who might otherwise not participate in a given activity, keep membership fees at a lower rate than similar organisations, develop our association and the support we offer to our members and encourage/support students as they commence their journey in becoming a family and systemic psychotherapist. Thank you for your support. Please follow this link to complete the Gift Aid form and then email it to finance@aft.org.uk.

Members will receive an invoice for their membership renewal in January via our Xero accounting system.
