FTAI and AFT Collaboration - Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

Working Across Jurisdictions

What does the MOU agreement mean for qualified and registered Family and Systemic Psychotherapists?

In recent years AFT and FTAI have been exploring the possibility of creating a simple pathway for qualified family and systemic psychotherapists to register in both, and/or, the UK and ROI with FTAI and or UKCP.

The equivalence of each organisation's training standards and requirements for FTAI and UKCP registration was assessed and established in 2019-20, by a steering group comprising both AFT and FTAI committee members.

The Memorandum of Understanding, MOU agreement between FTAI and AFT sets out this shared goal. It aims to be beneficial to family and systemic psychotherapists, employers and the public for whom appropriate registration is an important kite-mark to demonstrate high standards of professional training and practice.

The MOU recognises FTAI and AFT have high standards of training and requirements for supervision and continued professional development to support maintenance of professional registration with FTAI and UKCP. In addition, it recognises each organisation's Code of Ethics and Practice for membership.

The full MOU document can be viewed here: Memorandum of Understanding Document (pdf)
