This session will engage attendees in conversations about professional, contextual, and systemic strengths to establish medical family therapy and integrated care services through collaboration with multi-disciplinary partners. Evidence in support of systemic training, integrated care, and multi-disciplinary collaboration will be discussed along with clinical, operational, financial, and training pathways for starting an integrated behavioral healthcare partnership.

Angela Lamson

Angela Lamson, PhD, LMFT- is a Nancy W. Darden Distinguished Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Science at East Carolina University and currently serves as Senior Fellow for the Office of Innovation and Engagement. She is an AAMFT Clinical Fellow and Approved Supervisor. She is the co-creator of the first medical family therapy doctoral program in the United States. Dr. Lamson's teaching, external funding, and publications have been devoted to Medical Family Therapy and integrated care, particularly in the areas of trauma, biopsychosocial-spiritual health, and protective factors in the lives of individuals, couples, families, and providers. Her training and research initiatives have been housed in community health, primary care, specialty care, schools, and military bases. Lamson is an inaugural Executive Committee member for the Alliance of Military and Veteran Family Behavioral Health Providers at the national level in the United States and has secured over 7 million dollars in external funding throughout her career. Lamson has earned national awards for her influence on the field of medical family therapy (2020 Outstanding Contribution to Marriage and Family Therapy Award by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy), the 2022 Research and Creative Activity Lifetime Achievement Award at East Carolina University, and C. P. Magrath Community Engagement Scholarship Award (highlighting her contributions to an ECU-Contentnea Health integrated care partnership).
